Updated proposals for new social homes in Calne unveiled at second consultation

Dixon Way Second Consultation Birds Eye View

On Thursday 5 September, we unveiled our updated proposals to double the number of social homes on a residential street in Calne.

In July, we shared proposals with impacted customers, residents and local elected representatives to replace four homes we own on Dixon Way with nine new properties, all available for a social rent, with enhanced energy efficiency.

Following an initial public consultation, we listened to feedback provided by customers, local councillors and the wider community and have since revised their proposals for Dixon Way to reflect this.

Our changes to their proposals for Dixon Way include:

  • Improved provision of off-road parking
  • A reduction in the number of new homes from nine to eight
  • The inclusion of two one-bedroom and two four–bedroom homes in the proposals to cater for a wider variety of local housing need.

Our new homes would be built using a closed-panel timber frame system produced by award winning offsite housing solution manufacturer LoCaL Homes.  Utilising modern methods of construction will reduce residents fuel costs, help achieve a comfortable internal environment and will also contribute to the home’s overall energy efficiency.

Corrina Johnson, New Business and Development Manager, said: “We were proud to present our updated proposals to double the number of social homes on land we own located on Dixon Way.  As a social landlord we are keen to provide homes for those that currently are seeking an affordable home within Wiltshire.

“Thank you to those that provided feedback on our proposals for Dixon Way during both public consultations. We appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback on our proposals and value your input. We look forward to sharing the final versions of our plans in due course.”

Prior to the consultations, all impacted customers received a phone call from us which introduced our proposals for Dixon Way. This was followed up by a letter and a personal visit to provide the opportunity for customers to express any concerns or raise any queries they had.

If our proposals get the green light the current occupants of the homes at Dixon Way will be supported throughout the project, including exploring and securing temporary or permanent housing options and offering a new build home on the scheme once construction is completed.

In addition to support from us, impacted customers will receive statutory home loss payment in accordance with current legislation
