The National Care Forum (NCF), a professional membership body that represents 160 care and support services, is counting down to Christmas with an online advent calendar which shares examples of uplifting work by its members.
Amber Wood care home, a dementia centre of excellence in Burton, featured in the NCF’s advent calendar today!
The choir at Amber Wood comprises of both colleagues and residents and meets regularly to rehearse. In the video that features in the NCF’s advent calendar, you can watch the choir preparing for a special Christmas performance and learn more about how the singing has kept spirits high at Amber Wood.
Lucie Willday, Registered Manager at Amber Wood, said: “The idea for the choir originated with the care staff at Amber Wood and it has brought real benefits to our customers.
“The choir brings people together and can be therapeutic for those in our care. It is really special for everyone involved in the choir to be featured in the National Care Forum’s Advent Calendar.”
Amber Wood’s choir performed for a select gathering of family and friends of the residents on Thursday December 15. The choir sang some festive favourites including:
- Silent Night
- Jingle Bells
- We Wish You a Merry Christmas
- Away in a Manger and The 12 Day of Christmas
Chris, whose mum is a resident at Amber Wood said: “Joyce, my mum, has always loved music and enjoyed singing hymns during church services when she was younger.
“Being part of the choir at Amber Wood really lifts mum up and brings her out of herself. She doesn’t need to tell me this, I know from the smile on her face.”
Amber Wood provides a range of specialist dementia care and support services to people with a range of needs, including older adults (over 55 years), people with dementia and associated mental health conditions, older adults with physical disabilities and people with hearing or eyesight difficulties (or both).
