Three of our care schemes back shoebox appeal
Next month three of our residential care schemes will be supporting a donation drive for Operation Christmas Child- an initiative run by UK charity Samaritan’s Purse which provides toys, school supplies and toiletries for the world’s poorest children.
Up and down the UK generous donors, often children themselves, will soon be decorating old shoe boxes with brightly coloured wrapping paper and filling them with toys, stationery and toiletries.
Monday 13 November through to Monday 20 November is the designated ‘national collection week’ for Operation Christmas Child.
During national collection week three of our dementia care schemes: Amber Wood, Bowbrook and Silver Birches, will be acting as collection points for shoeboxes with colleagues, customers and visitors encouraged to donate.
Lucie Willday, Registered Manager at Bowbrook said: “With the festive season fast approaching, we are looking for ways to engage with the local community and support good causes.
“We are proud to be supporting Operation Christmas Child by acting as a collection point. Our colleagues, customers and visitors may well remember packing shoeboxes in years gone by which, for some, will bring back happy memories of Christmas.”
Since launching in 1990, Operation Christmas Child has delivered 208 million gift-wrapped shoeboxes to children in over 100 countries.
Shoeboxes are sent to children aged between 2-14 with age-appropriate items ranging from essentials like toothbrushes to school supplies and of course toys.
Common items packed in a shoe box include:
- Toothbrushes and toothpaste
- Face cloths
- Soap
- Hairbrush
- Crayons and colouring book
- Pencils and pencil case
- Notebooks
- Toys
- Games
