Virtually plastic-free homes shortlisted for Business Award
Our virtually plastic free homes, managed by Redditch Cooperative Homes, have been named as finalists for the Business Innovation of the Year award at the North Worcestershire Business Awards 2022.
Owned and built by GreenSquareAccord the revolutionary development provides 12 affordable homes in Redditch built using carefully sourced plastic free alternatives as an example of what can be achieved to reduce environmental impact.
The development is the first of its kind in Europe and the new homes have been constructed using timber panels from our award winning, low carbon manufacturing facility, LoCaL Homes.
Our Assistant Director of New Business Carl Taylor says: “We’ve really tried to break the mould with our new virtually plastic-free development in Redditch so to be recognised as innovators by the North Worcestershire Business Awards is a huge achievement.
“Our aim is for this project to influence others to embrace our approach and remove the plastic elements from their builds, helping to create a more sustainable building sector.”
Communications and Engagement Officer at North Worcestershire Economic Development and Regeneration (NWedR) Jane Doyle said: “We would like to congratulate all those who have been chosen as finalists in this year’s North Worcestershire Business Awards.
“We would particularly like to thank our sponsors for getting involved in this event and continuing to invest in North Worcestershire which continues to demonstrate it’s the natural environment for business!”
The €1.6m project received €967k EU funding from the Interreg North West Europe funding partnership, allowing us to research the reduction and removal of plastic in a real world large scale project; paving the way for a future of plastic free construction.
Representatives from twenty-five local businesses will gather at Hogarth’s Stone Manor on Thursday 24 November for the North Worcestershire Business Awards ceremony organised by North Worcestershire Economic Development and Regeneration (NWedR).
The awards’ panel of judges have remarked that the finalists reflect “an impressive range of diverse business, all showcasing their commitment to innovation, sustainability and adding extra value for their customers.”
