First residents move into our development in Sutton Courtney

Resident And Stuart Hay

We have handed over the keys to the first residents of our brand-new affordable homes located in Sutton Courtney, Oxfordshire.

The new homes, part of the larger Orwell Park development built by Linden Homes, are comprised of two and three-bed houses and one and two bed apartments.

We are providing a total of 32 affordable homes with eight available under a shared ownership scheme and another 24 homes for affordable rent.

Our Head of Development Peter Crouch said “Our new homes at Orwell Park offer residents the tranquillity of village life while being less than a 15-minute drive away from amenities in Abingdon and Didcot. All of our new homes in Sutton Courtney are available for an affordable rent or shared ownership and as such are helping to address the local housing need.”

The new residents will have access to off-street parking, a playground with play equipment and a green open space.

Deep consideration to the environment has been given throughout the Orwell Park development with plenty of trees planted, landscaped spaces and nine of our homes have been fitted with electric vehicle charging points. In addition, many of the gardens are complete with ‘hedgehog highways’- small gaps in fences which allow the small mammals to pass through in search of water, food and shelter.

John Lehman who has recently moved into the development said: “I have really enjoyed living here so far. It’s very peaceful here but really handily located for work. We are looking forward to spending our first Christmas in our new home.”

Orwell Park is ideally located for commuting with the nearest train station just over two miles away and is also only a ten-minute stroll from the charming Oxfordshire village of Sutton Courtney. The local village boasts pubs, eateries, a post office and a convenience store. Further local recreation options are provided by Sutton Courtney’s village green, community centre and the River Thames walking and cycling path.

The development is named after the world-renowned writer Eric Blair who is more commonly known by his pen name ‘George Orwell’. The 1984 author is buried at the nearby All Saints Church.

We are also offering two-bedroom semi-detached houses for sale by shared ownership. These attractive modern homes will be finished early in the new year and have vinyl flooring, carpeting, fitted kitchens and turfed back gardens.

Prices for the shared ownership homes start from £325,000 and shares are available from 40 per cent. Applicants must have a local connection to the Vale of White Horse and will need to pass a financial assessment prior to attending a viewing or making a reservation.
