Greenlight for 33 new affordable and energy efficient homes in Blakenhall Heath

Canalside Close New

Planning approval has been granted by Walsall Council for us to provide 33 affordable homes on disused industrial land close to the Wyrley and Essington canal.

Our new development, located at Canalside Close Blakenhall Heath, is being designed to be energy efficient and meet a variety of local housing need. The mixed development will be comprised of one and two bed apartments alongside houses with two and three bedrooms totalling 33 new and fully affordable homes.

The site is conveniently located as part of a developing residential area and is within approximately three minutes’ walk of bus stops and 12 minutes’ away from local shops by foot.

Our Head of Development Mike Nolan said: “We are delighted to confirm we have received planning approval for our new development at Canalside Close in Walsall. The development proposals include new dwellings and associated access, parking and landscaping utilising neglected and redundant land.”

All the new homes on Canalside Close will be built using low carbon LoCaL Homes Eco 200 off-site construction panels, which will reduce construction times on site, and achieve savings overall in terms of carbon release. The external wall panels will have a brick slip system applied in the factory. This will further improve both the quality and programme on site. Waste will also be dramatically reduced and will make for a much cleaner and safer site.

Mike Doolan, Sales and Partnerships Manager of Off-Site Manufacturing, LoCaL Homes said: “We are proud to be partner in delivering the Canalside Close development which will provide much needed affordable and fuel-efficient homes in Walsall.

“Homes built using the Eco 200 system are incredibly thermally efficient and well insulated with 200mm of insulation in the wall panels. This extra protection will result in heating bills far lower than those of traditionally built homes.”

Head of Development at Keon Homes Matt Beckley adds: “Keon Homes are delighted to be partnering with GreenSquareAccord to develop these much-needed affordable homes on Canalside in Walsall.

“We’re also pleased to be adopting LoCaL Homes energy efficient housing product which will enable us to develop a high-quality, high-performance housing solution.”

Future residents at Canalside Close will have an allocated parking space, access to cycle storage and will be a short stroll away from the canal towpath.

The Canalside Close development is within easy reach of several local schools, including Rivers and Goldsmith Primary Academies, a Nursery and playing fields which will make it an ideal base for those with young children.

Construction work is set to begin on the Canalside Close in early 2023.
