LoCaL Homes partnership delivers 75 new affordable homes at former brickworks
Work has started at the site of a former historic brickworks in Peterborough to build 75 new affordable homes. Located on Trelowen Way in Hempsted. The new homes are being delivered by Accent Housing, who already own and manage nearly 2,000 homes in Peterborough, in partnership with LoCaL Homes from GreenSquareAccord and Burmor Construction.
The development will consist of 75 properties ranging from 1 bedroom maisonettes to 4 bedroom houses which will be available for affordable rent for local people.
Sarah Ireland, Executive Director of Development, Sales and Homeownership at Accent Housing said: “This is a significant development for us and reflects the ambitions of our development strategy which commits to building sustainable homes in areas of high housing need.
“This development will provide homes which will be built utilising modern methods of construction and will be thermally efficient, reducing both fuel consumption and the overall running costs for our customers. Accent has made a commitment to build all its new homes in its land led programme to an EPC ‘A’ rating and currently has around 500 homes on site being built to this standard.
“We are delighted to be working in partnership with LoCaL Homes and Burmor Construction.”
The new homes will be the first from Accent Housing to be built using pre-fabricated timber panels from GreenSquareAccord’s award winning, low carbon manufacturing facility, LoCaL Homes.
Chris Hagan, Director of LoCaL Homes said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Accent Housing and Burmor Construction to deliver these much needed, low carbon, energy efficient, affordable homes using our innovative methods of prefabrication. Our off site construction offers a cost effective, sustainable solution that is both quick and easy to erect on site, supporting the drive towards Future Homes Standards.”
All of the new homes on the development have been designed to be highly energy efficient and thanks to the increased thermal performance of the timber panel construction the homes will have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of ‘A’. Photo Voltaic panels will be installed on every roof which will also reduce the energy costs for the new residents and help to tackle fuel poverty.
Burmor Construction will be building the new homes at Trelowen Way.
Luke Boekestyn, Director at Burmor Construction said: “We are delighted to designing and delivering these homes for Accent Group supporting their delivery programme and also assisting with their MMC portfolio.
“The LoCal Homes product range is a prominent feature in our strategic growth and housing model of which the benefits are clearly being showcased on this project.
“Producing homes that will yield an A-rated EPC can only create benefit for the future occupants, creating lower carbon, lower energy and lower cost living.”
The development is PART funded as part of the Homes England Wave 2 programme. Accent Group are a Delivery Partner within the Together Housing Group’s Strategic Partnership with Homes England to deliver affordable homes. The Strategic Partnership was awarded in January 2019 receiving £61.2 million to help deliver 1,331, additional affordable homes across the regions it operates.
Work on the development is due to be completed by January 2024.
